Description
The petticoat has a cotton lawn bodice and cotton voile skirt.
The shoulder straps are in the cotton lawn, ⅝" wide.
The top has a 2" deep hem with a line of feather stitch embroidery on the outside where it is stitched down, and the scalloped top edge is finished with blanket stitch. The seams of the bodice and the embroidery are all hand-sewn.
The voile skirt is gathered into the dropped waist of the bodice, with fewer gathers at the front.
It has a band of machine-made embroidery and cutwork 9½" deep round hem: garlands form a lattice 3" deep, with columns of cutwork, ⅞" wide, 3½" long and 2¾" apart, above. Below this the vandyked hem has a scalloped edge below a band of the cutwork. There is only one side seam, which is machine-stitched.
There are no openings in the body of the petticoat.
