Description
The vamps are in white leather and and their tops extend round the back narrowing to ⅜" wide where they meet at the centre back. The quarters and toe caps are in dark brown leather with rows of top-stitching about ⅛" apart.
The latchets are a panel of the dark brown leather, 2⅝" long and 1⅝" wide, stitched on top of the vamp, with two extra rows of top-stitching; they have five pairs of eyelets for lacing over the dark brown leather tongue. There is brown cotton piping round the top edges of the vamp and the edges of the latchets.
The Louis heels are 2⅜" high, covered with the dark brown leather, and the soles are a lighter brown leather. They have been repaired, and the shoes show signs of being well worn. The numbers 604 and letters HT are incised on the soles but are very faint.
The quarters are lined with taupe leather which also makes the socks, and the vamps are lined with taupe cotton.
The shoes were made by Barratts of Northampton, and their label is sewn to the lining in each shoe. The W Barratt Boot and Shoe company was established in 1903.
