A fastening consisting of a frame usually with prongs on its centre bar; placed on one end of a belt or strap, the opposing end would be threaded through the frame and over its centre bar, with the prongs pushed through eyelets, metal or worked. Sometimes the there are no eyelets and the prongs are pushed through the fabric; buckles used decoratively have fixed prongs or none at all.
