Description
The crin is plaited into ⅛" wide strips which overlap and have been stitched together with a chain-stitch machine.
The crown has a circular dent round the top similar to the style for a man's felt hat known as 'pork pie'; there are also two raised diagonals forming a V shape down the front. The crown is 4½" high.
The brim is 1½" wide and the wired edge is bound with peach velvet ribbon, ⅜" showing above and below. The back of the brim is turned up and stitched to the crown for 3" at the centre.
The band is dark brown velvet ribbon, 1½" wide, over ¾" wide peach velvet ribbon, of which ¼" shows above the top of the brown. The slanted end of the dark brown ribbon lies across the brim on the rght side.
The trim across the front is two leaf shapes made of straw stitched onto gauze, in natural, fawn, peach and terracotta with the stems in silver filé.
The hat has no lining, although that may have been removed.
