Description
The cotton has semi-transparent and solid stripes ⁷⁄₁₆" wide. There is wiggly cord couched decoration on the collar and the turn-back cuffs, and the same decoration forms a V on the front, 3" wide one side, 2½" the other side, with thread-covered domed buttons each side.
The puffs over the tops of the sleeves have four tabs over them with couched cord edging, fastened down with thread-covered domed buttons.
The centre back bodice opening is closed by six worked buttonholes and covered buttons with buttonhole stitch round the edge.
A linen drawstring is in a channel round the waist on the inside, tying at the back, and the dress may have been worn with a sash.
The skirt has 2½" of tight gathers into the waist each side of the centre back opening.
Three sets of tucks on the lower skirt consist of three which are ⅛" wide with a tuck of ⅜" each side; the 1½" wide whitework edging sewn inside the hem has 1" showing.
An opening for access to a pocket is in a seam on the right-hand side of the skirt.
